Joan Laporta admits there is an offer to sign Frenkie de Jong. However, Barcelona firmly defended the Dutch midfielder.
De Jong is one of the hot properties in the 2022 summer market. There are two English clubs who are interested in bringing the 25-year-old player.
Manchester United became the first Premier League club interested in signing De Jong. The offer from the Red Devils was rejected because MU was absent from the Champions League.
Furthermore, Chelsea made an offer to Frenkie De Jong. The Blues want to make the former Ajax Amsterdam their future midfield leader.
Chelsea reportedly offered a proposal worth 70 million euros (Rp 1.1 trillion) to Barcelona to redeem De Jong. The London club also offered Marcos Alonso, who was indeed one of the Blaugrana’s targets.
Barcelona president, Joan Laporta, did not dismiss an offer that had come for De Jong. Even so, his party is still reluctant to let go of the Dutch national team player.
“He is a Barca player with great quality and we want him to stay. We have a very strong midfield with him and his team-mates,” said Laporta, quoted by Mundo Deportivo.
“He has offers, but we want him to stay and he wants to stay here too,” Laporta revealed.
Frenkie de Jong has been in Barcelona’s uniform since 2019 and has a contract until 2026. He has appeared 140 times in all competitions with 13 goals and 17 assists.
